These paintings and drawings are inspired by my own personal experience, from images seen to things heard. These works mix an array of styles and applications, from loosely painted expressionist lines to hard edge geometric abstractions, from transparently glazed to opaquely knifed. The range of applications and exuberant bright colors separate the image into different quadrants or zones within the composition. Each zone requires its own style to define itself in relation to the whole. Using the language of abstraction, I compare and synthesize different systems. My abstractions are informed by two particular systems, landscapes and internal anatomies, and the signs in those systems that can be overlapped. I utilize shapes to explore these two different systems simultaneously.
