Seongmin Ahn graduated from Seoul National University and Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work takes Asian traditional painting as starting point and transforms it into something experimental with her own interpretation bridging tradition and modern, and East and West. She received a grant from Pollock Krasner Foundation and the first prize from AHL foundation. She has been reviewed on Washington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer, NY Arts magazine, Baltimore Sun and Plain Dealer. She has exhibited nationally and internationally including Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Queens College Art Center and Hello Museum. Through my work I would like to transform traditional art form into contemporary art that conveys fundamentals of Korean esthetics and philosophy. I am interested in pushing boundaries of traditionalism, thus opening up new dialogue in global culture.
