Marias' Basement is a work space and idea incubator of artists Maria Dimanshtein and Maria Liebana. Maria Liebana's work is fueled by her fascination with the escalating trend in materialism which encourages overconsumption. Her work is an investigation of combining traditional and nontraditional materials such as thrifted clothing, plaster, magazines, clay, concrete, various materials such as concrete, plaster, clay, collage and so much more. Maria Dimanshtein makes work about what it means to be a human in the context of the Universe. It is personal and poetic. She expresses her thoughts and feelings through combining drawings, photography and hand-written poetry; she creates installation, collage, artist books and edible sculpture. Some of the themes include depression, mystery, death, sex, intimacy.
