THRESHOLDS OF VISIBILITY
I want to consider other levels of meaning behind commonplace objects. By continuing to source the drain with its references to industrial sewers and urban effluence,I transform them into wax forms, exploring the limits of the material’s fragility. The wax together with the drain motif metaphorically, signify the action of evacuation and siphoning off and/or the possibility of melting away. What is below the drain imagery is a mystery too. Simultaneously fascinating and repellent, I work to achieve a delicate balance as I intend that these drain assemblages evince thresholds of visibility. I am convinced that nothing is ever what it first appears to be and often, as in my assemblages, something more is just below the surface.
