Amanda Barker is an artist from Fort Myers, Florida, currently living in Sunnyside, Queens. She graduated from Pratt Institute in 2011 with a B.F.A. in Painting. She is a member of the Sunnyside Artists and the Long Island City Artists. She serves as a board member for the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and the Sunnyside Artists. She is also a founding member of Ore Collective and the upcoming Boulevard Film Festival. Amanda's paintings document important moments from her life. She paints herself, friends, family and people that she meets, tackling the importance of making real human connections, along with issues such as body image and loss. What began as an interest in Henri Lefebvre's idea of the monumentality of spaces became a new way of looking at the world, and served as a major influence and turning point in Amanda's work. Amanda works primarily as a painter, but is also a multidisciplinary artist.
